Compounds of Interest : A review of literature and hundreds of samples brings chemical knowledge of this species active agents into question. Large variations plant to plant probably are to blame. Passiflorine is really a set of Alkaloid glycosides. Harman compounds are MAO inhibiting hallucinogenic synergist found in some specimens, but not others. Large numbers of Glycosides are present and may be important in its gynecological uses. Botanical classification is questionable due to sub-species variation found in field samples, especially in the tropics where inter-species breeding is common and hybrids are the norm.
Marker Compound for Standardization : The chemistry of Maca is variable and unusual.
